Objectives of Newton Gunasinghe Foundation

1. To foster and Develop among the plantation and rural communities a sense of self-reliance, an awareness of their educational, social, economic, and environmental, problems and to encourage them to solve their problems within a democratic and legal framework.

2. To promote justice and equitable society without discrimination- irrespective of race, religion, sex, creed, caste, ethnicity, nationality, language or colour.

3. To encourage and promote harmony and unity amongst humankind through promoting human rights and democratic rights.

4. To provide primary health care as identified in terms 1-17 of the United Nations Charter complied by the World Health Organization and assist people to achieve total physical, mental, social and spiritual development.

5. To implement primary health care programmes with the people’s participation, empowering them to take health care into their own hands.

6. To protect and foster basic human rights

7. To address the issues of child labour, and child abuse amongst the plantation community through awareness raising programmes

8. to setup documentation center and museum in order to protect and preserve the artifact and cultural heritage of the community.

09. To work towards the promotion of women’s participation independently in activities relating to overall social change.

10. To promote cultural standards and literary and communication activities amongst the oppressed and depressed people.

11. To address the issues of aging by creating awareness among the present generation and by promoting self-confidence and self-reliance among the aging population

12. Empower the women to take part in all decision making forums

13. Enlighten the community on gender, labour, child and human rights

14. Enlighten the community on environment and nature
